Diesel measured on the same platform as your grid supply

On sites that run gensets for load shedding or backup, fuel is often the second largest energy cost and the only one still reconciled by dipstick and delivery note. Metering the tank and the engine puts diesel on the same reporting footing as grid electricity — litres, engine hours and cost per kWh, recorded as they happen instead of reconstructed at month end.

The fuel blind spot

Purchase and consumption are weeks apart

Diesel is bought on one date and burned over the following weeks. Without a tank measurement, the month-end reconciliation compares a delivery note against an estimate, and any loss sits inside the difference.

Pilferage leaves no record

Fuel drawn off a tank or a running set does not appear on any document. The first sign is a shortfall nobody can account for, months after it started.

Runtime and cost are disconnected

Until fuel is tied to engine hours and load, there is no litres-per-kWh figure for any set, no way to compare one against another, and no measured basis for deciding when to service or replace it.

What gets installed

Four components at the generator. Installation is normally scheduled alongside the electrical metering works, inside the same commissioning programme.

Fuel level sensor
Fitted into the generator fuel tank and calibrated to the tank geometry, so the reading is a volume rather than a percentage of an assumed shape.
GPRS tracking unit
Transmits fuel data over the mobile network and integrates it into the platform. It also records engine hours and location.
AC-DC converter
Powers the installation from the site supply without depending on the genset battery.
IP-rated enclosure
Protects the electronics in a plant room or an outdoor tank compound, where dust, heat and water are all normal.

Every sudden rise or fall in tank level is logged and classified. Legitimate refills are recorded against the delivery; anything else is flagged while it is still worth investigating.
