Five kinds of facility, five different questions
A branch and a data centre share almost nothing except an operator. Metering is planned per facility type, and the platform then presents them together.

For a bank, the energy question is really a continuity question
Cost matters. Availability matters more. A branch that cannot transact and a server room that cannot cool are operational risk events, and the equipment that prevents them is usually the least observed equipment on site.
What the facilities return tells the risk committee today
- “The generator was serviced and test-run this month.”
- “The UPS at each critical site is rated for the load it protects.”
- “The branch lost power for about an hour on Tuesday.”
What the metered standby chain evidences instead
- UPS behaviour
- Load on the UPS, how long it carried it, and whether the load it protects has grown past what it was specified for.
- Transfer events
- Every changeover to and from standby, with time and duration, so outage frequency at a site is a figure rather than an impression.
- Generator running
- Output and run-hours per site, set against the load the set was actually carrying at the time.
- Cooling against IT load
- Server-room cooling measured separately from the IT it serves, which is the only way to tell an efficiency problem from a capacity one.
None of this replaces a test regime; it closes the distance between what the regime asserts and what the estate can show. Generator fuel monitoring is a separate Orijtech Energy service and runs on the same platform, so consumption and refuelling sit beside the run-hours above.
Branch against branch
Once branches are metered on a common platform, consumption can be normalised for size and opening hours and set beside one another. The outliers identify themselves.
In practice the same few explanations recur: air conditioning left running overnight, a setpoint nobody revisited, signage on a permanent circuit, or equipment installed years after the supply was designed. None of them are visible from head office without measurement, and all of them are correctable.
ESG and board reporting
Sustainability disclosure is increasingly a condition of correspondent banking relationships, development finance and listing. A disclosure built on estimated consumption is a disclosure with an audit exposure inside it.
Metered data gives you the measured consumption figure, the period it covers and the points it was taken from — a number with a provenance you can defend to a board committee or an external assurer.
- Solar across a branch estate
- A branch draws its load between opening and closing, which is when an array generates — the rare case where the two curves line up. What differs is branch by branch: a high-street branch with a heavy air-conditioning load and a small upcountry branch on a generator do not take the same system. Solar project development sizes each site from its own metered profile, so a rollout is a set of decisions rather than one multiplied by the branch count.
- A study, where a subscription is not what is being bought
- Head-office buildings and data or card-processing centres are often the largest single accounts in the estate, and the question asked about them — by a board committee, a regulator or an external assurer — is a one-off one. An energy audit answers it with a dated report and the measurement record behind it.
How a branch-network rollout is phased
No bank should instrument a national branch network on a proposal. A pilot across a representative sample establishes what the data shows, what it is worth, and what a full rollout would involve — before the estate is committed.

- Headquarters — main incomer plus the largest plant loads
- A selection of high-consumption branches
- A selection of representative ATM sites
- Critical UPS and server-room loads
Meter tiers are selected against the current rating of each circuit, and every three-phase meter takes three current sensors. The assessment fixes the count before anything is quoted.
